The NRA Basic Pistol Course is designed for individuals of all experience levels, providing essential knowledge and skills for safe pistol ownership and shooting.

 

This is an 6-hour course and requires a minimum of 3 participants.

Course Structure

The NRA Basic Pistol Course is available in two formats:

1. Instructor-Led Course: This traditional format involves direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor in a classroom and range environment. It can be completed in a single day or over several days with smaller blocks of instruction.

2. Blended Training: This format combines an online self-study module with a hands-on practical session. 

   ​

Course Content

The course covers a variety of topics essential for safe and effective pistol use, including:

• Gun Safety Rules: Understanding and applying the fundamental rules of firearm safety.

• Pistol Operation: Learning about different types of pistols, their parts, and how they function.

• Ammunition Knowledge: Gaining insight into ammunition types and selection.

• Shooting Fundamentals: Developing marksmanship skills and understanding shooting techniques.

• Range Safety: Learning the protocols for safe behavior on the shooting range.

• Live Fire Training: Completing practical shooting exercises under the supervision of an NRA Certified Instructor.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate of completion, which may be used to apply for concealed carry permits in some states. It is advisable to check local regulations to confirm if this course meets specific requirements.
